Squared Awards 2016: we've got our winners!

Last night we welcomed Squared grads from as far afield as Cyprus to our first-ever Squared Awards Night & Christmas Party at Google HQ in London. Gathering around our special Christmas trees decorated with Squared-theme baubles it was incredible to see so many of the Squared Network in one room, and toast to a very special few years.

This year we saw our 5000th graduate from a programme that started as a 6 week immersive programme at Google in 2012, develop into a scalable online version that sees digital talent from across the world join every month to empower themselves to do great things in digital, and take both their organisations and their careers forward.

This year we wanted to do something big to recognise and celebrate the amazing things – big and small – our graduates do each and every day in digital, and the amazing leaders they are.

That's how the Squared Awards came to be, and last night we also crowned our very first winners across three categories: Squared Digital Champion, Squared Digital Team of the Year and Squared Leader of the Year. Miss the shortlist? Catch up on all the entries in the running here.

Whitepaper - the increasing importance of mobile for the confectionery industry in emerging countries

The final module of Squared Online sees Squares work in groups to create a whitepaper that sells their ideas on how a major digital trend will affect an industry. For our latest whitepaper showcase we're taking a look at a series of reports from students who joined us from Perfetti Van Melle, who look after brands such as Smint, Chupa Chups, Mentos and Fruit-ella.

‘The best digital marketing course I’ve done’

 Senior Marketing Executive Jessica Moore actually found Squared Online while she was searching for something else.

‘I was researching digital agencies for work and noticed someone from the company I was looking at had done a course called Squared Online. I checked it out, and my company sponsored my place on the October cohort.’

Jessica works for MotoNovo Finance - a Cardiff-based company who provide Point of Sale vehicle finance on car, van and bikes through motor dealers across the UK and Northern Ireland - and within a few months of starting on the course she was already bringing her learning back and affecting positive change throughout the company.

Reece Caizzo Brown is the Communications Manager for the Newlife Foundation, a charitable organisation caring for disabled and terminally ill children. After a career spanning over eight years in various communications and marketing roles, he came across Squared Online in a Click Z newsletter – and Newlife signed him straight up.

‘I’ve always had a digital mindset,’ he explains, ‘but here was this great opportunity to fine-tune and refine my skills.’

Tracy is driving the digital revolution in the care sector

When Tracy Steel told her employer Carewatch about Squared Online, they were more than happy to fund her place on the course and help build confidence in her role as Digital Marketing Executive.

What they perhaps didn’t expect was that just a few months later, Tracy would be driving digital and social forward for the entire organisation, travelling around the UK delivering talks and her own digital marketing training company-wide.

'I called out for local digital champions and said that I would train them, and provide ongoing support. I had a huge take up, and I've been all over the UK since, training my digital champions.'
